MANLIO RHO

Manlio Rho was one of the leading exponents of abstract art in Italy. He was born in Como on February 15, 1901, and his vocation for painting began at a very young age. In his studio on Via Odescalchi in 1918, his first paintings were created, influenced by the figurative painting of the Novecento movement. During the 1930s, he associated with rationalist artists and architects from Como, with whom he formed a very active group within the Italian and international avant-garde.
